Helping Hands Project

Helping Hands Project

The Helping Hands Project is a Scottish Registered Charity which has been in existence since 1995. We are independent of all services and are managed by an independent Board of Trustees.

Our concept is that of a Handy Man Service. We aim to provide practical assistance and to carry out small tasks within the home of the elderly, disabled and those with learning difficulties living within East Ayrshire.

Our first Low Level Maintenance Service with EAC was established in 2001. Initially these tasks were carried out by volunteers and ranged from cleaning the inside of windows, changing curtains and small D.I.Y. jobs. Four maintenance personnel are now employed to meet the needs of around 720 clients who pay an annual membership of £25.00. The maintenance personnel are assisted by our volunteer.

The Shopping Service commenced in 2002 employing three personnel to provide a shop and delivery service to clients within Kilmarnock and surrounding areas. Operating between Monday and Friday we can service the needs of up to 10 clients per day.

In response to numerous requests from the public as to where they could borrow a wheelchair for a short period of time, our Wheelchair Service was introduced in 1999. We now have available approximately 20 wheelchairs which are given on loan for periods ranging from half a day to 4 weeks.

All three services are supervised by our Project Co-ordinator Joanne Fisher. For more information about the help we provide, please visit our “Services” page.
